LGBT Chamber to debut online publication

QSanAntonio, June 14, 2014

The San Antonio LGBT Chamber of Commerce will soon unveil a new online publication that organizers say will highlight the positive developments in the city's LGBT community.

The new magazine, titled Inside Out San Antonio, will be premier in July online and through an app for smart phones and tablets. It will be produced monthly.

Ruby Resendez, president of the chamber, told QSanAntonio that the magazine would not be exclusively about chamber members' businesses, saying the content would have an emphasis on promoting the LGBT community and its allies.

Inside Out San Antonio is being produced in collaboration with The Broadway Agency (BA), a San Antonio company that specializes in web design, print media, corporate identity, and brand development.

Staff from BA will design and publish the magazine and sell advertising. They will hire LGBT photographers and writers to create the content. The editor for the publication is Leslie Kissling and the advertising director is Alex Cantu.

Resendez told QSanAntonio that BA expected a 50-50 split between ads and content. Chamber members will be offered discounts on advertising.

According to an email sent out to potential advertisers by Cantu, in addition to articles, the magazine will feature "video, audio clips, hyperlinks to websites, fan pages, and photo galleries."

The San Antonio LGBT Chamber of Commerce was founded in 2008 by Cristina Martinez of Houston, who at the time published the San Antonio Gay and Lesbian Rainbow Pages.

Today, the Chamber's membership has grown and has a long roster of corporate members including hotels, banks, insurance companies and many others. Aside from meetings for members, the group also sponsors monthly cocktail parties, luncheons and business breakfasts.

Resendez says the chamber is planning a kick off event for the new publication in early July to coincide with Pride celebrations in San Antonio.
