Chief Officer of HRC Foundation to speak at S.A. gala
QSanAntonio, November 27, 2013
Jeff Krehely, vice president and chief foundation officer at the Human
Rights Campaign, will be a featured speaker for the San Antonio Gala and
Silent Auction scheduled for December 7 at the Westin Riverwalk.
Krehely joined HRC in January. Previous to that, he was vice president
for LGBT research and communications at the Center American Progress.
He has also served as the research director for the Movement Advancement
Project, a think tank that generates research and analysis to help speed
equality for LGBT people.
Krehely has also worked as the research and deputy director of the National
Committee for Responsive Philanthropy; special assistant to the president
of The Atlantic Philanthropies, Inc., a multibillion-dollar international
grantmaking organization; research associate at the Urban Institute’s
Center on Nonprofits and Philanthropy.
"We conducted an exhaustive search to identify the very best individual
to lead our Foundation and we found that person in Jeff," said HRC
president Chad Griffin at the time Krehely was hired. "Under Jeff’s
leadership, we look forward to leveraging not only our programs, but the
Foundation’s own visibility, reach and potential."
"Jeff possesses unparalleled expertise across the issues our Foundation
works on and he is intimately familiar with the strategic policy, research,
and communications agenda needed to deliver results," says Griffin.
"He is also aware of the divisive tactics and deceitful messages
our opponents use to attack us, our families, and our youth, and is ready
to help shine light on their increasingly extreme attempts to thwart progress."
On its website, HRC describes the Foundation's achievements. "The
HRC Foundation has proven itself to be an invaluable force in driving
real change in the lives of everyday LGBT Americans – from creating
more equitable workplaces and safer, more welcoming schools, to providing
the invaluable resources and education couples need to start a family,
to tackling inequalities in the healthcare system, to amplifying the voices
of LGBT people of faith. The work of our Foundation staff has improved
the lives of LGBT people in very real and tangible ways."
Krehely holds a B.A. in English from King’s College (PA) and a master
of public policy from Georgetown University. He has been published by
the Brookings Institution Press, the Urban Institute Press, and others.
He is co-chair of the advisory board for the Forty to None Project, a
program of the True Colors Fund, which seeks to raise awareness about
and bring an end to gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender youth experiencing
homelessness. He is a member of the board of directors of SMYAL and the
Progressive Congress Foundation.
At the gala, HRC will present the Equality Award to San Antonio City Councilman
Diego Bernal for his leadership in helping pass the city's new nondiscrimination
ordinance. The Chuck Jordan Award for lifetime advocacy will be given
to Dr. Delia Bullock of the University Health System's FFACTS Clinic.
