Run & Walk for AIDS marks third year at Blue Star
QSanAntonio, September 9, 2013

The 24th annual San Antonio AIDS Foundation's Run & Walk for AIDS will once again be held on the banks of the San Antonio River at the Blue Star Arts Complex in the city's Southtown neighborhood. The event is one of SAAF's largest fundraisers of the year.

Organizers are expecting more the 800 participants for the 5k run and 2 mile walk. Top fundraising individuals and teams will receive trophies and top runners will receive medals.

“The Run & Walk for AIDS is a great way for the community to show their support for SAAF,” says SAAF’s executive director, David Ewell. "Not only does it help raise awareness, but it’s also an easy way to help us raise money and it’s a lot of fun.”

The event brings together individuals and teams in a festival-like setting along the banks of the San Antonio Riverwalk's Mission Reach. The Blue Star Arts Complex will serve as the start and finish where there will be booths and entertainment.

This year there will be a Morning Mimosas tent sponsored by Barraca Paella & Tapas Bar, A.M. Ales by Blue Star Brewing Co., Pet Paws Corner by Lucy’s Doggie Day Care, and a Fun Zone by Inspire Fine Arts and Microsoft Store. DJ Crys Stone will emcee the festivities.

Valero Engery and Citi are the event's Red Ribbon sponsors. “We are delighted with our top sponsors this year,” said Jill Rips, Deputy Executive Director of SAAF. “Citibank has carried SAAF’s torch for many years. And, we're grateful to see another corporate citizen like Valero take the lead with their generous support.”

Ewell emphasized the importance of corporate sponsorships, as well as individual participation in the event. "Individuals and companies who take part in the Run & Walk for AIDS provide an essential source of monetary assistance for SAAF at a time when funding and grants are more difficult to obtain.”

The Silver Sponsor for the event is Avita Drugs. Bronze Sponsors are Argo Group, Frost Bank, Garza Pharmacy and University Health System.

Media sponsors are San Antonio Current, Texas Public Radio, QSanAntonio, C Stone Entertainment, KSYM 90.1 FM, and Out In SA.
